Thoughts I couldn’t ignore…

Giant Killer

Adley asked me this morning, “ how did David know the sling and rock would kill Goliath”

And it made me stop and think for a moment.

David didn’t guess. He didn’t hope. He knew. David didn’t trust the sling, or his ability. He trusted God.

Because for David, long before there was a giant… there were lions and bears. Long before the battlefield… there were fields of sheep needing protection. David had already fought battles no one saw. Already trusted God when it felt small, lonely, unimpressive. God had been preparing him for this battle for many years before.

David never credited his skill alone. He credited the faithfulness of God who had already proven Himself many times. That’s why David could stand in front of a giant and say, without hesitation

“The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear is the same Lord who will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.” — 1 Samuel 17:37

David knew he wasn’t doing this on his own. He never claimed the glory. He never pretended he was brave because of himself. His confidence wasn’t arrogance, it was trust. He trusted God to lead him, to give him courage, to guide his hands like he had before. He trusted God with the outcome.

So when Goliath showed up, David wasn’t suddenly brave. He was prepared.

God does the same thing with us.

The struggles you thought were random. The seasons that felt pointless. The trials that made you ask, “Why me?” “Why am i dealing with this?”

They weren’t wasted. They were training.

God uses the everyday. The hard conversations. The silent endurance. The small obediences. The tears that nobody sees.

And one day, you’ll stand in front of something that feels like a giant you can’t beat… and then you’ll realize your hands already know what to do.

The battles we face, they aren’t meant to showcase our strength to us or anyone else, but to reveal and remind us of God’s faithfulness. It’s not about what we can handle, but about who we learn to lean on.

Every time God carries us through something hard, it’s building our faith muscle. So when a giant finally shows up, we don’t panic , we remember. He did it before. He’ll do it again.

That’s why Scripture tells us to consider it a joy when we face trials, not because they’re fun (they’re absolutely not), but because God is building something in us that we’ll need later. He’s growing and strengthening our faith so that it will be long lasting. And so that we have confidence in where our strength comes from.

David didn’t wake up one day and all of a sudden become a brave giant killer. He became one, one small stone at a time.

It’s starts with one step of obedience. One deep, steady, every day trust and faith in God. From the smallest, silliest struggles and inconveniences to the earth shattering problems we might face, God is right there with us asking us to trust him and to rely on him to carry us through.

💜 So whatever struggles you may be facing today or tomorrow trust that God is there with you.
